Ofsted and Outstanding Music Teaching

ofsted and outstanding music teaching

Sometimes a single (long) sentence can be a relief:

“Outstanding teaching is about improving the quality and depth of pupils’ musical responses – it’s less knowing about music, more knowing and experiencing music itself, less about the language of words and more about the language of musical sounds”.

Found this in a magazine recently from Ofsted’s senior inspector for Music. Must say that it sounds about right to me! I’m particularly pleased that it seems so close to the ideals of Musical Futures.
